2025 ITE Western District Student Leadership Summit - Los Angeles, CA Institute of Transportation Engineers at UCLA hosted the 12th annual ITE Western District Student Leadership Summit. Students and transportation professionals from across the West Coast gathered for three days of learning, networking, and mentorship. The Summit was organized entirely by students and designed to develop the next generation of leaders in transportation. The three-day summit included a transportation career fair, field trips, panels, workshops, a gala dinner, and more. The SLS Organizing Committee aimed to build significant connections, facilitate mutual learning, and grow student leaders as they enter the industry. Although Spain began developing high-speed rail later than some countries, it now boasts the most track mileage in Europe and the second most in the world. Romo discussed the key factors behind Spain’s rapid adoption, as well as the opportunities and challenges high-speed rail presents to cities of all sizes. Drawing on notable examples from major cities such as Lyon and Bordeaux, as well as smaller cities like Besançon, Dr. Morenon highlighted how iterative design processes and strategic public-private partnerships have transformed stations into powerful economic and mobility hubs.
