Workforce Development

MTI supports a wide range of educational programs, for adults as well as youth.

Through its education program, MTI sponsors the annual Garrett Morgan Sustainable Transportation Competition that introduces middle-school students to transportation issues and an annual Summer Transportation Institute for high-school students. MTI also sponsors The Mineta Transportation Institute Elementary Poster Contest for students grades 1-6 and Essay Contest for students grades 6-12. In partnership with elementary teachers and students, MTI developed Elementary Lesson Plans that introduce 1-6th graders to the basics of how people and goods are moved. The Mineta Leadership Academy is devoted to developing exceptional public sector leaders to serve the transportation industry.
