The Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI) at San José State University (SJSU) presents the 16th Annual Mineta National Transportation Policy Summit: “Beyond the Stadium: Keeping Cities Moving During Mega-Events.” The event will be held virtually on Friday, May 16th, 2025 at 10a.m. (PT).
California is preparing for an unprecedented wave of global sporting events—Super Bowl 60, the FIFA World Cup, and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. These mega-events will bring millions to California cities, testing the strength of the state’s transit systems and the people behind them. The question is clear: how do transit agencies, local governments, and industry professionals keep everyone moving safely and efficiently while minimizing community disruption and maximizing long-term benefits for local communities?
The summit will feature guests such as California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) Secretary Toks Omishakin, City of San José Mayor Matt Mahan, renowned transportation security and terrorism expert Brian Michael Jenkins, and many others as they share best practices and insights from previous large-scale events, including Super Bowl 50 and the Paris Olympics, and how to apply global lessons—such as traffic management and communications planning—on a regional scale.
This summit features MTI Executive Director Dr. Karen Philbrick as MC and MTI Trustee and CEO of Lincoln Room Lynda Tran as Moderator.
More experts joining the summit as presenters and panelists include:
Carl Guardino, Past Immediate Chair, California Transportation Commission
Mark Brule, Chief Application Architect, Allied Telesis
Aston Greene, Chief of System Safety & Security, VTA
Matt Mahan, Mayor, City of San Jose
Step into the conversation about moving California forward during an era of global attention.
This free webinar is hosted in partnership with the Commonwealth Club of California with ACE and San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission as presenting sponsors. Guests can register at https://transweb.sjsu.edu/events/Beyond-Stadium.
