From Research to Readiness: Building the Transportation Workforce

Barbara Taylor (Interim Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs, California State University Long Beach) and Mette Bjornholt Karapetian (Vice President, Global Sustainability- ESG, Shipco Transport) present strategies for utilizing university-industry partnerships and innovations in career-long learning to create robust talent pipelines, foster research and workforce development collaborations, and build dynamic knowledge ecosystems. The presentations will explore a rationale for new initiatives designed to equip both emerging and returning professionals with the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) necessary to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving career landscape.


Speakers & Moderator

(Moderator) Barbara Taylor, Ph.D., Interim Associate Vice President, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, CSU Long Beach

Dr. Barbara Taylor currently serves as the Interim Associate Vice President of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at CSU Long Beach. Prior to this role, she served as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
Barbara Taylor has over 45 publications in biology, with specialties in marine physiology, neurophysiology, and the cellular mechanisms of aging.  She has received funding awards for research and research training from the NIH, NSF, and DOD as well as state agencies. She holds a doctorate degree in zoology from the University of British Columbia.

Mette Bjornholt Karapetian, Vice President, Global Sustainability – ESG, Shipco Transport

Mette Bjornholt Karapetian currently serves as Vice President for Global Sustainability at Shipco Transport. Prior to this role, she was the Vice President, Global Accounts, for North America – a role she held for over 12 years.
Mette Bjornholt Karapetian holds a master’s degree in Education, Educational Technology, & Media Leadership as well as an MBA from CSU Long Beach
