Certificate in High-Speed and Intercity Rail Management
 

Our online graduate program offers students a unique opportunity to develop expertise in high-speed and intercity rail management (HSIRM). The program is offered by the Lucas Graduate School of Business and supported by the Mineta Transportation Institute. The certificate is intended both for professionals working in the fields of public transportation or rail who wish to enhance their qualifications for advancement and for professionals from related fields who wish to move into rail management.


Study Options

Options for HSIRM studies:

  1. Complete the Certificate in High-Speed and Intercity Rail Management (4 courses/12 units)
     
  2. Complete the MS in Transportation Management (10 courses/30 units)

 

What you will learn

Students gain the holistic understanding of HSIRM needed for leadership roles, including:

  • Challenges and opportunities for HSIR in the United States
  • Global best practices in HSIR
  • Inter-relationships among high-speed rail, conventional intercity passenger rail, freight rail service, and urban public transportation
  • Roles for different levels of government in planning, governing, and operating corridors and stations
  • Day-to-day operations, including customer experience, service scheduling, and security management
  • Contracting approaches for both construction and operations

  • Affordable tuition: Students pay tuition for MTM classes on a per-course basis. As of Fall 2023, the cost is $1,395 per 3-unit course. In the Fall of 2024, the cost will rise to $1,485 per 3-unit course. Many students also receive financial support.
