This research focuses on the intersection between the widespread use of autonomous vehicles and their impact on governmental policy and revenue at the federal, state and local levels including infrastructure, penal law and societal benefits. The research examines revenues collected by States and Cities that are tied to a drivers’ license or the act of driving, explores what could happen to that revenue when autonomous vehicles are in widespread use, and identifies what steps/changes governmental bodies can begin now to brace for a potential loss in revenue.
