The Mineta Transportation Institute organizes or participates in several transportation-related events each year. These include national summits, regional forums, industry conferences, or special events and broadcasts. You can find leading transportation experts at all of these events, making them an excellent resource not only for professional and research insights, but also for networking.

Pre-APTA Rail

MTI will present a Mineta National Policy Summit on Transportation Finance: Catching Up with the Rest of the World. This afternoon workshop will feature a keynote by Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood (invited). Panel moderator will be Transportation Secretary (ret.) Norman Mineta, with a panel composed of APTA Board Chair Flora Castillo; Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty; and former Deputy Secretary of Transportation Mortimer Downey. MTI’s National Transportation Finance Center Director Dr. Asha Weinstein Agrawal will present the results of MTI’s national transportation funding survey, along with four years of trends.

APTA Rail

APTA and MTI will co-sponsor an afternoon workshop panel on June 5 addressing Seamless Intermodal Transfers. How are agencies creating seamless transfers and connections between modes? How are cities partnering with the private sector to deliver passengers to their final destinations? Can existing systems simply pick up passengers at the station, or will the routes and schedules require adaptations? The workshop also will preview the MTI study on how locating high-speed rail stations can best work with other public transportation systems.

CUTC Summer Meeting

As a leading member of the Council of University Transportation Centers, MTI will participate in the organization’s summer meeting at the University of Memphis. The meeting includes strategy sessions, workshops, committee discussions, and other business relevant to the members’ transportation research activities.

Norman Y. Mineta Transportation Policy Summit

Dr. Asha Weinstein Agrawal, Director of MTI’s National Transportation Finance Center, will present the latest research results from a national survey polling Americans about transportation taxes and fees. Keynoting will be Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood or Secretary-nominee Anthony Foxx (invited) introduced by Secretary Norman Mineta. A panel discussion will include Dr. Agrawal; former Deputy Transportation Secretary Mort Downey; California Department of Transportation Director Malcolm Dougherty; and APTA Chair and New Jersey Transit Board Member Flora Castillo.

MNTRC Board of Trustees Meeting

The Mineta National Transit Research Consortium, led by the Mineta Transportation Institute, will hold its summer board meeting at the corporate offices of Wells Fargo Bank. Chair Steve Heminger, Executive Director of the San Francisco Bay area’s Metropolitan Transportation Commission, will preside. US Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood has been invited.

MTI Awards Banquet and Commencement Exercises

US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will keynote as graduates of MTI´s Master of Science in Transportation Management receive their hoods at a banquet attended by families, friends and transportation leaders, including Secretary Norman Mineta. An award will be given to the winning team in the Garrett Morgan Sustainable Transportation Competition. Alumnus of the Year will be named. Wine reception at 5:30; dinner at 6:45. Public Sector Innovation Workshop

MTI will co-sponsor this select gathering of industry, government agency, academic and community leaders seeking a way to accelerate public-sector technological innovation in transportation, energy, the environment, and many other nationally important community needs. Podcar City: Washington DC

This annual event moves to the US capital, where more than 200 experts in surface transportation and transit are expected to gather. They will discuss the future of podcars, also known as “personal rapid transit” or “automated guideway vehicles.” MNTRC/MTI Executive Director Rod Diridon will address the gathering.
