EVENTS
The Mineta Transportation Institute organizes or participates in several transportation-related events each year. These include national summits, regional forums, industry conferences, or special events and broadcasts. You can find leading transportation experts at all of these events, making them an excellent resource not only for professional and research insights, but also for networking.
During the next several months, MTI will be hosting or participating in the following events.
Transportation Finance Forum – October 29, 2009 – San Francisco
An expert panel will address the financial challenges facing California´s transportation infrastructure as the state anticipates exponential population growth in the next 50 years. Confirmed speakers include Therese McMillan, Deputy Director of US DOT´s Federal Transit Administration, Randell Iwasaki, Director of Caltrans, and Steve Heminger, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. Dr. Asha Weinstein Agrawal will moderate. The meeting will take place at the Commonwealth Club of California in San Francisco. It will be recorded for later broadcast over NPR Radio. MTI Board of Trustees´ Meeting – January 9, 2010 – Washington, DC
Every six months, MTI Trustees meet to discuss Institute business. The January meetings are traditionally held in Washington to coincide with conference of the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) and the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB).
Workforce Development Summit –February 2010 – Long Beach, California
MTI and Metrans are co-sponsoring a statewide conference to address strategies for recruiting, training, and retaining career-path candidates for transportation careers. The two-day program, appropriate for anyone who faces these issues in educating or hiring candidates, will be held at the Long Beach Hilton. Topics will include: assessing skills gaps, necessary training, career planning, outreach and recruitment, working with community colleges, best practices, and more. Watch for updates about the program, along with information about registration and sponsorship opportunities. APTA Rail Conference – June 6-9, 2010 – Vancouver, British Columbia
