MTI´s Graduate and Certificate Programs
The College of Business at San José State University, with support from the Mineta Transportation Institute, offers both a Master of Science degree and a Certificate program.
The curriculum was designed with input from industry leaders, and it is led by nationally recognized instructors who are academic or industry experts. The Masters program is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The program is accelerated, which enables students to complete a Master of Science degree in a little more than two years. Classes are held in the evening, allowing students to work full time while earning their degrees. Students generally take one course at a time, one night per week for each 10-class session, for a total of four classes per year. The program is available statewide at designated Caltrans district offices and other sites. Classes are delivered by two-way video conferencing supplemented by video streaming and web courseware.
The Masters of Science in Transportation Management (MSTM) is a fully accredited 30-unit Masters program, taking a little more than two years to complete. The curriculum includes six required courses, three electives and the culminating Capstone Course, MTM 290. Click the Course Descriptions, Course Schedules and Course Registration on the left sidebar for more information. The FAQ includes additional information.
NEW
The Certificate in Transportation Security and Management (CTSM) emerged from the close working relationship between MTI and the Lucas Graduate School of Business at SJSU. This has enabled the Institute to offer a four-course‚ graduate-level Certificate in Transportation Security Management (CTSM). The certificate consists of two required courses "Emergency Management for Transportation Professionals "and "Security Issues for Transportation Professionals." These two courses are taught respectively by Dr. Frances L. Edwards‚ a renowned disaster response expert‚ and Dan Goodrich‚ a specialist in planning‚ training‚ and exercises related to weapons of mass destruction. Students seeking the certificate also complete two courses from the current graduate–level transportation curriculum. Additionally‚ students who complete their masters degrees in transportation management may earn a specialization in transportation security management by taking the two-course security sequence. All students who complete the security sequence may earn certification in both SEMS (Standardized Emergency Management System) and NIMS (National Incident Management System) upon successful completion of the tests‚ and DHS course credit for "Incident Response to Terrorism Bombings" and "Prevention and Response to Suicide Bombings." For more details on CSTM Certificate in Transportation Security and ManagementThe Certificate in Transportation Management (CTM) is a 12-unit program that offers two options. Students may take any four courses listed among the six required courses in the MSTM program, or they may take three required courses and one elective. The CTM program is ideal for students who may not be ready to pursue the full Masters program, but who wish to advance their transportation careers. Students who later decide to pursue the Masters degree may transfer up to six units of their CTM program toward fulfillment of the MSTM requirements.
