Admissions Criteria

Master of Science program

Candidates for the Master of Science in Transportation Management (MSTM) program must meet the following requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Formal admission to San Jose State University. Admission requires a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5.
  • Admission to the MSTM Program. Acceptance is evaluated on an individual basis based on general criteria including a target GPA of 3.0 and a minimum score of 500 on the target Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT), based on both verbal and analytical sections. The GRE (Graduate Records Examination) may be taken in lieu of the GMAT. Minimum GRE scores of 151 in Verbal Reasoning and 152 in Quantitative Reasoning are required for admission. Certificate programs

Admission to the Graduate Certificate programs, Certificate in Transportation (CTM), Graduate Certificate in Transportation Security (CTSM) or the Graduate Certificate in High Speed Rail Management (CHSRM) requires an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution (any major). The GMAT is not required but a GPA of 2.5 is required for admission to any of the graduate certificate programs.

TOEFL requirement (all programs) 

All graduate applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose preparatory education was principally in a language other than English, must demonstrate competence in English. Those who do not possess a bachelors or masters degree from a post-secondary institution where English is the principal language of instruction must receive a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
