Promoting Interest in Transportation Careers Among Female Youth

The proposed project seeks to understand the effectiveness of specially designed educational materials in promoting interest in transportation topics and careers among female students. The project will develop educational materials that use pro-environmental framing and exposure to female transportation role models to promote transportation fields and careers. We will leverage existing educational materials for 8th grade and university, and thus will be able to gain insight into the relative effectiveness of such educational materials on different aged students. The expected outcomes of this project include: a) Improved understanding of the role that targeted educational materials can have on female interest in transportation topics and careers; and b) a collection of publicly available educational materials that can be used in classrooms to stimulate interest in transportation careers.
