California Gasoline Tax Revenue Futures

Passage of SB1 provides a new revenue stream for transportation programs in California, but in the longer term improving vehicle fuel efficiency and the adoption of electric vehicles and other alternative fueled vehicles will reduce revenue produced by motor fuel taxes. The project will assess likely revenue futures under a variety of reasonable assumptions related to the future adoption of alternative fueled vehicles, fuel efficiency of internal combustion engines, and prices of petroleum.
