Alternative Fuels Data Center (U.S. Dept. of Energy) -
The Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) collects operating information from vehicles running on alternative fuels, analyzes the data,
and makes it available to the public. The AFDC site contains information about alternative
transportation vehicles, refueling sites, alternative fuels, biofuels, and clean cities. Also
included at the site are alternative fuels web site statistics and information about the
National Alternative Fuels Hotline.
Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) - The Bureau of
Transportation Statistics (BTS) is an operating administration of the U.S. Department of
Transportation (DOT). BTS is a statistical agency, a mapping agency, and an organization
for transportation analysis. This site includes the State and Metropolitan Analysis for
Regional Transportation (SMART) database, U.S. transportation statistics, descriptions
of BTS products, geographical information systems, and international transportation data.
Center for Transportation
Technologies and Systems - The Center for Transportation Technologies and Systems is
concerned with developing ways to assist industry in the development of alternative
fuel vehicles. This site includes documents and publications dealing with alternative
fuels, electric vehicles, and other aspects of transportation.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) site includes detailed information

Federal Railroad
Administration (FRA) - The Federal Railroad Administration works as a
partner with everyone associated with the U.S. railroad industry--large
and small railroads, passengers, shippers, employees and their unions,
managers, manufacturers, suppliers, Congress, state and local
governments, and the general public. This site includes background data about the
FRA, and

Federal Transit Administration
(FTA) - This site contains
information about the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), including general data, funding,
research and technology, planning and policy, safety and security, and program guidance. Links
to sites related to FTA activities are included.
House Committee
on Transportation and Infrastructure - The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure
site contains information on legislative activities of the subcommittees, including aviation,
Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, railroads, and surface transportation. The
committee calendar is also at the site.
Hybrid Electric Vehicle Program -
The Hybrid Electric Vehicle Program works with Industry to develop vehicles with high fuel
economy and low emissions, with a goal of making hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs)
commonplace on American highways by the year 2003. This site contains information about
programs, including those with General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler.

National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) - The NHTSA site contains files relating to
recent events regarding highway traffic and safety campaigns. Information
is included in areas such as safety assurance, highway safety programs,
consumer information, and traffic statistics and reports. The site also
contains notices of public meetings and events.
National Renewable Energy Laboratory
National Transportation Control/ITS
Communications Protocol (NTCIP) - The primary objective of NTCIP is to provide a
communications standard that ensures interoperability and interconnectivity of traffic
control and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices. This site contains meeting
minutes for the NTCIP Steering Group, the full text of a number of NTCIP publications,
and a number of downloadable files (e.g., Standard Communications Protocol for Traffic
Signals in California).
Oak Ridge National Laboratory --
Transportation Technologies - The Oak Ridge National Laboratory performs research in
support of the Office of Transportation Technology. This site contains information about the areas of research:
biofuels, feedstock development, Partnerships for a New Generation of Vehicles, Ceramic
Technology Project, High Temperature Materials Lab, Lightweight Materials Program, alternative

Program (TCRP) - The TCRP was established under the Federal Transit Administration to serve as one of
the principal means by which the transit industry can develop innovative near-term solutions
to meet demands placed on it. This site contains information about research activities and

Transit-on-Demand Project
- The Transit-on-Demand
Project was initiated to demonstrate the potential use for a demand-based transit system to
reduce the number of vehicle miles traveled. This site includes project information,

U.S. Department of Transportation -- Technology Sharing
Program - The Technology Sharing Program produces reports for the non-scientists or
technical person to understand and act on problems of state or local governments. This site
contains listings and an order form for reports, all of which are free. Report categories
include: transit, commuter/travel demand/highway and street management, rural, disadvantaged,
energy, safety, water, and taxi.
Volpe National Transportation Systems Center -
The Volpe Center is "dedicated
to enhancing the effectiveness, efficiency, and responsiveness of other Federal organizations
with critical transportation-related functions and missions." The site contains news, events,
