Sustainable Communities/San Joaquin Valley Growth Response

MTI received an independent grant from the Planning Division of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to study Sustainable Communities. The scope included a general survey of the topic for education purposes and specifically called for an examination of the possible actions by all the various public and private entities with roles in the provision of transportation facilities and services in California. The MTI team was led by Kenneth R. Schreiber, AICP, and included Gary Binger, Dennis Church, Dr. Richard Taketa and Dayana Salazar; Peter Weschler was the graduate student research assistant on the project.

The Institute delivered a final draft report and several working papers to Caltrans, which posted the resulting documents on their website on August 20, 2001. The document requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, and is located at:

Copies of the Draft Final Report and of Working Papers 1 - 4 are available from MTI. See the Publications Order Form
