Summer Transportation Institute

High school students who live in the San Jose, California area can learn about transportation careers through a four-week on-campus session at San Jose State University. The Summer Transportation Institute introduces students to principles of transportation systems development, construction, management, technology, inter-modal systems, and environmental impact. Students come away understanding the career opportunities in the transportation industry, and they are stimulated to pursue college degrees that prepare them for transportation careers.

Students have described the program as a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.” A young man from Fremont High School in Sunnyvale said, “The class was more than I imagined and surpassed all my expectations! The class lectures…were interesting. The projects and field trips were awesome!”

This year, classes will be held Monday-Friday, June 25-July 13, from 8:45am-3:00pm (excluding July 4). The course qualifies for three FREE college credits in environmental science through San Jose State University.
The program is made possible by a grant from the US Department of Transportation´s Federal Highway Administration.
