TRANSPORTATION SECURITY COURSEWORK

Students enrolling in the Certificate in Transportation Security program will take the following two classes, as well as two courses from the regular transportation management curriculum:

Security Issues for Transportation Professionals
Students enrolling in "Security Issues for Transportation Professionals" will learn concepts and terminology associated with physical security, such as:

  • various types of physical security mechanisms and how they are blended for maximum effect

  • how to conduct a cost-benefit analysis of security plans

  • existing and proposed, for transit and transportation organizations

  • about explosives, delivery mechanisms, their impact on transit and transportation facilities

  • how to audit security with concentration on transit and

  • transportation organizations and assets

  • about issues related to transit police department formation...

Emergency Management for Transportation Professionals
Students enrolling in "Emergency Management for Transportation Professionals" will learn:

  • the State of California's Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS), with certification available

  • Federal Department of Homeland Security National Incident Management System (NIMS)

  • emergency operations center design and management

  • components of an adequate emergency plan for a transit or transportation agency

  • how to conduct a threat assessment for a transit or transportation organization

  • how major natural and technological disasters have impacted transit and transportation sites and systems
